Not only was this old house left abandoned by its residents several years back, but the whole town of Cedartown, Georgia, was abandoned by most of its citizens when Union troops encroached during the U.S. Civil War.  They were wise, because the entire city was burnt to the ground by General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick and his Union forces.  In 1865, only one mill was left standing. By 1900, when this house was constructed, the community had risen from the ashes and had rebuilt many architectural gems on Main Street. During the 1970s, however, many of those same gems were demolished, including churches, trains stations, a high school and a theater.

Adorable and unbelievable potential! Will of course need re-hab, but for the right buyer this is a diamond waiting to be brought back to life. Will most likely need to be a cash or investor loan purchase.

Although the house above is the only abandoned building on Gibson Street currently for sale, for a relatively short street (one mile long), Gibson has its share of abandoned buildings.

I’d love to see the interior of this double porch, vernacular farmhouse.

Now abandoned and dilapidated, this was once someone’s dream cottage

Two abandoned businesses near where the railroad tracks cross Gibson Street.

Cedartown does have a wonderful historic district with buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but perhaps the city is most well-known for the Katelyn Nicole Davis suicide. On December 30, 2016, 12-year-old Katelyn, known online by the username ITZ Dolly, hanged herself from a tree in her front yard while live streaming the event from her cell phone. She alleged she was being physically and sexually abused by her stepfather. The video caused widespread outrage.
