Balthasar Kreischer
The Kreischer Family
The mansion was built in the 1880s by Balthasar Kreischer, a wealthy German-born brick manufacturer. The Kreischer family used the mansion as their primary residence, and it was one of two identical mansions they owned in the area. The other mansion was tragically destroyed by fire in 1894, resulting in the deaths of two Kreischer brothers.
The Hauntings
The haunted reputation of the Kreischer House stems from various reported supernatural occurrences and eerie experiences. Visitors and investigators claim to have witnessed apparitions, heard disembodied voices, and experienced unexplained phenomena within the mansion’s walls. Some of the reported ghostly figures include the spirits of the Kreischer brothers who perished in the fire.
More Tragedy
Although murder is a theory, in 1894, Edward B. Kreischer committed suicide by a gunshot to his right temple. It happened near his place of business. Some believe that it is Edward who haunts the Kreischer Mansion.
Mafia Connection
Added to the strange story of the Kreischer Mansion is its connection to the Mafia. In 2008, it was revealed that then caretaker Joseph “Joe Black” Young was a hitman for the Bonanno crime family. He served under Bonanno Soldier Gino Galestro who was convicted of the murder of rival mob associate Robert McKelvey, committed in 2005 on the property.
